in bloom

This custom console was developed using biomimicry. Biomimicry is the practice in which we learn and mimic elements and strategies found in nature to solve human design challenges. Biomimicry can also have several benefits relating to our environment. For starters the connection to nature that biomimicry provides, naturally relieves stress, bringing relief to the end user. Additionally we can utilize the sustainable strategies already found in nature, rather than reinvent less effective strategies. Learning from nature provides a new look at problems, design, and beauty.

For this design I have chosen a flower. The flower has 5 petals which double as storage compartments. The stem has two cabinet doors that open up to reveal three shelves for storage. Also within the stem there is an electrical path for phone chargers to weave through so clients will be able to charge their phones without the cords being visible.

The materials chosen were white oak and a brass metal laminate. These were chosen as they are very soft, warm tones which is a feeling people get in the springtime when flowers are in bloom.
